Memoirs of Hadrian
by Marguerite Yourcenar
Beautifully written. Even though it’s a faux memoir, it’s written in first person so you can really feel the emotion when reading about his life, especially the triumphs and losses, as well as when he comes to terms with his death. I’d have to say, “Patientia” was my fave chapter.
It would be amazing to be able to read Hadrian’s actual autobiography but this is a wonderful interpretation.
