I'm Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy

dark sad fast-paced

5.0

Please do read the trigger warnings before starting this book.

I have avoided reading this book like the plague and I honestly don't know why. Maybe it was because I didn't want to join in on the hype when this book was released because that is all my feeds are filled with.

The story of a child actor and their life in shambles is not really something new in this world as we have many, many examples already. However, getting in depth and reading it first hand was something else. I could not imagine what Jennette has gone through all these years. I'm just reading it and I already feel suffocated with everything that was happening.

This memoir is very accessible, easy to read, it gets uncomfortable but in the right way.

Another thing I have realized from this book, totally unrelated, is that memoirs are now the thing that gets me out of a reading slump.

If ever Jennette writes a novel or explores being a writer, I would gladly pick it up as this was well-written, reasonably paced, and the kind that gave no bullshit.
