A Realm of Ash and Shadow by Lara Buckheit
Did not finish book.
DNF at 40%. I received my copy through Netgalley.
The blurb was interesting enough so I got a free copy to read. I struggled to get into it though. I feel like I just slogged through the pages until I admitted defeat and finally gave up.
I found the female lead to be juvenile and petty. She whined about being a neglected daughter because her father is "hiding" her in the human world.
She also got mad at whatshisname because he brought her to Empyrean before she was able to graduate. Of course, let's just forget that she was fighting demons at the time and he actually rescued her and saved her life.
And when she found out her fck buddy was taken by demons (he let himself be taken because he knew she went missing and of course why not be heroi-stupid by offering yourself so you can get to another world you have NO CLUE about), she attacked whatshisname because she was blaming him.
And of course since the fck buddy/friend is with the baddies, she has to rescue him, right? Thankfully, I'm not going to see/read whatever happens about it.
Oh, and of course she has to be mad about being bonded to whatshisname even though he had no control over it.
Overall, she's just not someone I'd like to read about so I'm sorry but it's a no for me. Lol
