A Tale of Witchcraft... by Chris Colfer
5.0
Happy Pub Day to A Tale of Witchcraft! This is New York Times Best Selling Author Chris Colfer’s 2nd book in The Tale of Magic series.
Brystal Evergreen attempts to keeps peace while the evil Righteous Brotherhood Clan threatens the peaceful kingdom. As in the first book, she has plenty of help from delightful fairies Tangerina, Skylene, Xanthous, Emerelda, and the beloved Madame Weatherby.
Along the way Brystal struggles as her self-doubt pressures her to be something she’s not. She would rather be a more unconventional faerie and, for instance, wear pantsuits instead of dresses, as expected.
An unpredictable series of events places Lucy Goose into Mistress Mara’s Ravencrest School of Witchcraft where she joins fellow students Sprout, Stitches, Beebee, Hareiet, and Pip and their antics cracked me up! I loved these funny characters and found myself laughing out loud.
Chris skillfully weaves the need for acceptance and equality into his story, as he informs the reader by example to be kind and understanding in today’s harshness of racism, discrimination, hate, patriarchy, and oppression.
Chris’s books are written with middle grade readers in mind; however, I think “children” of all ages will enjoy them and immediately feel love for the characters. There are lessons in this book that will refresh our awareness of the world around us.
“Spend time with people who make you laugh and distract you from your troubles. Nourish your soul and hopefully the mind will follow.” ~Madam Weatherby
NUGGET GAINED: If you need help, ask for it!
Thank you Chris Colfer and Little, Brown and Company for the advanced reader copy!
