Killing Commendatore
by Haruki Murakami
I dont know where to begin w writing about the latest opus by Murakami named Killing Commendatore. The original in his native Japanese was released in 2016 and this was very recently translated (by who?)
This man is one of the best current fiction writers. beyond that he is brilliant. Its his ideas (and Idea is one of his characters as Commendatore). Its the span of his thinking and it is also his vast knowledge that seems to have no limits.
The characters he develops are Alive. I cant remember the name of the main character who is the I from which this complex tale is told. He or Murakami's I is age 36 and a portrait painter who is married and they live in Tokyo. He comes from a normal basic family and there is a tragedy there the death of his sister Koma at the age 13 from heart failure. This book is his story of a period of time not long that begins when his wife Yuzu an architect also young tells him the marriage is over and she persists in telling him that it is not his fault. That conversation is so surreal. Everything stems from that. The book really is a fully cycle of Life
The title is puzzling and it is connected to a painting by a famous Japanese artist that he discovers in the attic covered wrapped. That is connected to the opera Don Giovanni where someone kills the Commendatore. If you think thats all to that you dont know Murakami a man of multiple layers.
Really what is this story about and it is so personal to Murakami writing it as "I" first person singular. This is about a man transforming himself in every way from bottom to top top to bottom all through .... As that this is a Masterpiece...
I read ridiculous reviews from people saying its too long its bloated. Nonsense. It is as long as it needs to be to tell the tale...
