Dare: The New Way to End Anxiety and Stop Panic Attacks by Barry McDonagh
3.0
3.5/5. I have really mixed feelings about this.
first, the method he offers is definitely simplistic enough to be understood and practiced, and I have found some relief from trying it in the midst of a darker moment. on the other hand....
I really didn't appreciate the way he referred to other treatments, medication, CBT, or otherwise. he says in the beginning his may not work for everyone and might not work immediately, and then basically swears off of all other forms of relief. I definitely think this could make a difference, but not completely cutting out other options.
i also found the self love chapter a bit odd. i really can't find that saying i love myself every day makes me believe it - i think there's definitely more to it.
that being said, i liked the conversational tone of the book, and the hope was refreshing - as was the insistence upon normalcy of anxiety. normalizing mental health is something that's very important to me, and that i appreciated.
definitely worth some time, though some portions can be taken with a grain of salt
