This is an Amazon First Reads first person narrated bonus short story about a ghostwriter called Anne who writes a self-help book for Melody who deals in lavender wellness nonsense and finds Anne's family a great flat in Manhattan but works her too hard. Then Anne finds something out about Melody and the woman who lived in the flat before them.
Now I know it's a short story and it's difficult to write convincing characters but these were all unlikeable cardboard cutouts. This story would have been a lot better if it had been given space to breathe. As it is, there is barely any tension, the pace is uneven and the ending abrupt. I could go on but I don't want to make the review longer than the story.
