Second Chance by Jay Northcote

this book gave me everything. Nate is back in his hometown with his daughter, living with his mother to give a change of scenery to his daughter that was spiralling out of control. Jack is back living with his parents after losing his job and his driving licence due to alcohol addiction.

they used to be friends and Nate had feelings for Jack but Jack is gay and Nate wasn't out as a trans man at that time. they lost touch but life seems to bring them back together.

both of them have to deal with their situation but they just connect in a new way, adding something more to their past friendship.

this was incredibly readable with layered characters and nuanced familial relationships. i really need to read more from Jay Northcote, everything i've read by him has been solid.

CW : (it's been a while since i've read this book so i'm pretty sure i forgot some, please check more reviews for additional content warnings) alcohol addiction, deadnaming, transphobia, drug use, spiked drink, and more.
