I'm a huge fan of Julia Whelan. She's one of my favourite narrators, and I really enjoyed her first book, My Oxford Year (narrated by her, of course!)
Thank You For Listening especially tickles my fancy because it's a romance novel about an *audiobook narrator* and just, how meta is that? I really enjoy her writing and the quirky humour that made me laugh out loud. There's a bunch of emotional hits with this one as well. Humor and joy and anger and sadness. (Not particularly spicy, if that's what you're looking for. Though Casanova LLC, the extra meta romance book born from THIS book, also exists!)
The plot is fun, though very predictable, but I am a-okay with that. I loved having a protagonist with a disability. (And you know, an Irish love interest doesn't hurt either.) It hits differently from My Oxford Year, in a good way. I felt the end was rather underwhelming, but a part of me appreciated that. Plus it didn't have a (maybe spoiler but not really)sudden miscommunication trope in the third act. (Phew!)
I was waiting for just that extra connection between the two leads to develop more, that would have helped fully seal the deal for me, but it didn't quite fully get there. BUT, I still very much enjoyed this. I think the whole audiobook narration spin really helped make this story shine, and it bumps up my rating.
And of course, listen to the audiobook version because she is the queen of narration! I also LOVED her note after the book, discussing how the book came to be.
NGL I wish there was more of that humour & chemistry from the messages between her and Brock, in the rest of the book. Loved that bit!
