The Jasmine Throne
by Tasha Suri
I wish I knew going into this book that it was a very long buildup for the rest of the series. I would have probably been less flighty during the book.
The writing was gorgeous. Love the magic system and how Suri used events in Indian history to put a twist on the oppression (the Rot) of colonialism. Super clever. I suppose the fire is also a symbol for colonialism too...
The plot is very complex, like Poppy War by RF Kuang complex. Woof. It took me a little longer to get through this book than I usually do because of it. I had to go back a lot and reread; it was a little confusing when there were random POVs (like the soldier during the attack on the Rose palace).
I'm a little intimated to get into the next one but excited to see how the story unfolds.
