This book was such a surprise for me! At first, I was a little... I'm not even sure there's one word to sum up what exactly I was feeling lol. Maybe a little perplexed? I don't know the point is when I first started reading the language took some time to get used to and because I'm a tad immature when it comes to my humor there were a couple of things I probably read and pronounced incorrectly in my head so of course I was hysterically laughing over it lol. As the story went on though it was no longer strange and their way of speaking became somewhat second nature to read and understand. I mean this is a fantasy world after all and it does center around fairytales so the strange language is not so out of left field.

Speaking of fairytales let me just say that I am a huge fan of the way Adaline took the concept of fairytales and weaved them into this storyline. It's such a different spin on using these stories both in the way they are normally told as well as using them in an entirely new way. Like a combination of the original and darker versions of the tales mixed with the current childhood versions, we all grew up with. There are so many different characters from all of those stories mixed together into one big world that it creates such a fun reality to escape into.

The main characters of the story however are so full of personality and loveable that you can't help but be entertained. The number of times I busted out laughing at the banter between all of them was too many to count. And our FMC's lack of filter to keep her thoughts inside her head had me cracking up every time I turned around! I absolutely know how she feels cause I often have the same problem haha! The spice is supposed to increase as the series goes on but even with the handful of moments you get in this first book, I'd say it was very well done. It was full of tension, and steam, and not overly detailed. It complimented the storyline and the relationship between the characters without overpowering it at the same time.

With a nice little twist in the plot towards the end and a jaw-dropping cliffhanger of an ending part of me will be hanging in limbo awaiting the next installment trying my best to be as patient as possible lol! I have a good feeling about this series that's for sure. If you're looking for a fun fantasy romance with a little spice mixed in that is upbeat and will leave you with a smile on your face I'd say this is a good one to reach for.
