Snow Country
by Yasunari Kawabata
It really was just okay. The writing is great--it is Kawabata, after all--but I just did not find the story to be all that moving, nor the psychological character development all that interesting. Shimamura is a married man from Tokyo who decides to go to the snow country hot springs and starts an affair with a local girl, Komako. What follows is a sort of evolution of their "Relationship." There is a third person involved as well, a woman named Yoko, though her ultimate role in the story eluded me. It must have been symbolic. An okay read, especially since it is so short. But I doubt I would revisit it.
