A Flicker in the Dark by Stacy Willingham
2.0

this was hard to rate. i did enjoy this book because it's twisty and dark and entertaining, and for about 70 pages before the end, i was really gripped. but unfortunately, there's a lot of things i didn't like.

for instance, i could guess right off the bat "who-dun-it". maybe that's not a slight on the author's part considering this isn't remotely close to my first rodeo in this genre but it would've been nice if i could FEEL the mystery component a little more.

there's so many tropes, it's hard to take seriously. and the main character continues to make horrible life choices despite all the trauma and tragedy in her life. it was also particularly annoying when a supposedly big plot twist didn't land as intentioned.

overall, it was okay; i might've liked it more had i been a novice to this genre. but i do look forward to the emma stone rendition!

2.5 stars.
