I saw this book around for years, and it was not until recently that I decided to give it a go. It was my first from Frederick Backman, and I picked one heck of an introduction. The simple description on the back cover does not even begin to do justice to how incredibly profound this story was. This book defied my expectations in the best possible ways. It gave me all the feels. I laughed out loud, was angered, felt the warm and fuzzies, and got teary eyed at the end. The shift between past and present was so effective. It gave insight into Ove and how he got to where he did and why he was the way he was. A straightforward and engaging writing style, serious topics handled with care, and powerful life lessons. Perfect from start to finish. I cannot say enough good things about this book, and I am still thinking about it writing this review weeks later. The bar has been set high. I have a few more titles lined up from this same author, and I am eager to read them all!
