Helen of Troy by Margaret George

Actual Rating: 3.75/5 stars
Review: I had a few issues with it - the main one being the fact that the plot revolved around Helen needing to be “saved” from a loveless marriage. (I get it, she wanted out, but there is a way to write that into the story without adding the idea that she needed “saving” from the marriage by ANOTHER MAN.) Two other things that bothered me were how little a role the gods had and the fact that the Greeks were turned into bad guys for the purpose of the story. I was expecting to hate - and absolutely loathe - this book. I love George’s writing style, but with how annoyed I was at The Confessions of Young Nero and The Splendor Before the Dark on top of the synopsis . . . my expectations were dreadfully low. Yet I was pleasantly surprised by this book. As I mentioned at the beginning, I do feel like there were some main issues with the book and storyline, but I do feel like it was a solid retelling of the Trojan War.
