Ghostly Echoes
by Уильям Риттер, William Ritter
What a remarkable comeback from the previous book, Beastly Bones. In this, the third of the Jackaby series, it almost seems apparent that Ritter wanted to end the series, rather than be bogged down in a long drawn out multiple book cookie cutter epic, which is basically what the second book was. We start this book with the understanding that we'll get to the bottom of Jenny's sub-plot. The characters go down a rabbit hole and we find that Jenny's death (not a spoiler) was part os a much larger plot. That plot fuels the remainder of the series. The story line of the book itself doesn't end (which is part of the reason for the 4 star rating), but we do get a satisfying conclusion to what happened to Jenny and her Beau. There is a certain amount of predictability throughout the book, which is another nod to the four star, but this being a teen series I give that a little bit of a slide. The writing is sound, the narrative is a tad bit loose, but the pacing is good which makes up for that. Just an overall wonderful addition to the series, and if feels as though we're headed to a satisfying close to the series as a whole.
One last note. The cover art for these books is spectacular. Whomever worked on this deserves all the kudos in the world, and I hope they do many more books, because they're brilliant.
