“Hell is the absence of the people you long for.”
This is a good book as far as the subject matter goes. It is centred around the collapse of civilisation brought about by a deadly virus (starts sweating profusely). The writer was able to imbue a deep sense of dread in my mind, not to mention the fact that my fears were intensified thanks to CoVID 19. The narrative spans across multiple characters and for some who had their lives completely changed by the pandemic, I could empathise and relate with their grief and loneliness to some extent but for the most part I wasn't compelled to either like or dislike their stories.
The writing had this curious character which held me drawn to the book. Bleak, glaring in the face with the obvious truth of the fragility of civilisation, the writing was however equally delicate and introspective.
