The Centre by Ayesha Manazir Siddiqi
3.5
Anisa, a translator, learns of an exclusive language learning centre that promises to teach any language in 10 days for $20,000. She goes through the program successfully and then realizes that she needs to learn the secrets behind how it works.
Siddiqi's writing is, for a white American girl, like looking into another world. There is much culture, food, and history mentioned that I didn't quite grasp, but that's okay. It was like looking through a keyhole into a world not meant for me. The writing is also rife with delicious symbolism and foreshadowing that I enjoyed reflecting on.
