May Bird and the Ever After by Jodi Lynn Anderson

4.0

This is a story about May Bird a ten year old girl with no friends but her gangly cat named Somber Kitty. After receiving an impossible letter from many years past and addressed to her, she embarks in a journey to the Ever After. Only it might have not been by choice that she ended there and now she is in grave danger. Will she make it back home or is she stuck in the Ever After forever.

This was a good tale about May Bird’s journey in the Ever After and we get presented with a few characters that bring some mystery and action to the story. May Bird is a great character and well developed you can really get a feel of what she is going through. I loved the way we get glimpses of Somber Kitty’s journey on the sidelines getting a double adventure. I like the different characters and mini adventures she has as she is making her way towards the Ether. It was sweet to see the friendship building between her and Pumpkin. I like the attention to detail in her surroundings and the different places they travel. The way the Ever After is explained and the concept of the specters, house ghost and live ones went great in adding to the new world she has entered. Over all it was a good, easy read that gives you a sense of adventure, mystery and action. This is a good children’s book borderline young teen book.
