This was a cute book at first, I had moments where I've laughed, moments where I've felt emotional, and I did genuinely like it when I first read it, UNTIL I read that this was inspired by the sixties coop. Comparing indigenous children to monsters just feels so wrong? Not only is the writet incredibly uneducated about the coop, he also thinks it was all well and good after a settlement. It's sad because he is genuinely talented, so it was such a shame, but because of him and his lack of knowledge and respect to indigenous people's history and voices, I'd give this a 1.5 and thats solely because I can't deny he's a talented writer. It's never too late to learn, and I hope in the future he does his research & supports indigenous people.
