This book is just a retelling of the story of Kushiel's Dart from the perspective of Joselin. It's worth reading for the beginning of his training as a Cassiline Brother, but I grew bored of the story rehash from the POV of an out of the loop character.

If you've already read Kushiel's Dart, you can read the first third of this book and you've got everything new added. Joselin's point of view just isn't as interesting.
