Quite simply one of my favorite books of the year so far. A very different take on apocalyptic fiction. Humans (known as the Dead Gods) are gone and now it’s just a handful of animal species.

One of the things that I liked the best is that while the story centers on the rabbits, we also get parts of the story from the POV of the other species in the Million Acre Wood. This aspect reminded me of the adage that in a predator vs prey scene in a nature documentary, who you’re rooting for depends on who the documentary is about.

The characters are vividly drawn and the dialog is often laugh out loud amusing. But there are also plenty of deeper themes to think about as well. There is going to be a sequel (and I can’t wait) but unlike some series, this felt like a fairly complete story on its own.
