Earth's End
by Elise Kova
another three star rating for the three star series
- these characters have grown considerably since the beginning of the series and it all felt so natural. vhalla was this naive, stubborn, naive library girl but she is strong, determined and fiery now. that natural progression is something i genuinely really appreciate about this series. we stan *character growth*
- so many of the side characters have captured my lil heart. i LOVE fritz (tbh we didn't get nearly enough of him in this book), daniel, baldair, and our new golden boy JAX. all these hot men gonna make me swoon. aldrik dear, i think you got some competition.
- the writing has improved since the beginning of the series. the metaphors now make sense! (small victories i guess)
- these books are so slow to start but those DAMN TWISTS. i can't they each individually break my heart many times
- there is absolutely no world-building in this series, and i'm still so confused. are the directions regions? political entities? countries? i think they mentioned the place the emperor rules over, but are all these directions places under his rule? then why he is trying to overthrow them? what is anyone in this series actually trying to do? what is even happening????
- i forgot to mention this for the previous book but the girl on girl hate ain't a good look on you elecia
- the sorcerer discrimination first mentioned in the first book is non-existent. no one cares about it anymore and they praise her as if not every human being in the first book was petrified by them? like vhalla's best friend of many years refused to talk about her? consistency? we don't know her.
- the pacing issue came back again. like vhalla had to trek over dangerous land that seemed like it was this reckless and impossible pursuit? done in like three pages. everyone coming back their new base felt super sudden? and aldrik was like PERFECTLY fine? the big battle at the end of the book that makes or breaks vhalla's life? a single chapter? suspense is lost, and my head also begins to hurt when your grasp of the time constraints in the book are non-existent.
anywho, kind of bad but i'm also kind of enjoying it? off to the next one!
