The river is hungry for souls, the people of Longhill are starving and the monster that calls itself Kithamar would sacrifice them all just to take back control.
This is a book (like a city) that contains a thousand little stories inside it. Some get told, some are not what you think, some stories are whispered, then carried away by the river and some are lost entirely.
The pacing was what I struggled with most, it seemed like nothing and everything was happening all at once. In the grand scheme of things, that’s kind of the point. Poetic and tragic, in the same way something that means everything to one person, means nothing to a stranger (or a friend/family member/lover/neighbor). There’s several POVs, which are sometimes discombobulating, but also tie all the stories together.
