Blue Period, Vol. 1 by Tsubasa Yamaguchi

i was really excited to read this manga because i am a art
major in college and i was intrigued to see how a story that’s relatable to me would be incorporated into manga. while i love the premise, i feel as if this story becomes very tedious and dragged out in this first volume. the first chapter and the last chapter were definitely my favorites as they were more story driven rather than educational. i feel as if there’s a better way to go about the educational segments in this manga, because not everyone who reads this is going to want to learn about the color wheel that takes up half a page — they just wanna read manga. similarly to another reviewer, it also took me twice as long to finish this compared to other manga i have read simply because of how much of a rut the middle chapters fall into. i really hope that the second volume breaks out of this and focuses more on yatora and his journey with art. also, is yuka trans or...? throughout the book the author uses she pronouns and has characters say they’re “in drag” and the yatora even refers to yuka as their male given name. but at the end of the book in the section where the author talks about the characters, he uses he pronouns for yuka? so i’m rlly confused. if someone could tell me please let me know!
