I decided to borrow this book from my library without knowing much about it – I had only heard that it features interesting and unique characters. Well, let me tell you, it ended up being one of the best books I read this year.

The appreciation and love I have for both Simon and Jodie is immeasurable. Two broken – by life and by people – human beings who find kindness and solace in their unique friendship. This book highlights the importance of surrounding yourself with people who can support you and comfort you during both pleasant and unpleasant moments. Ones who will be there for you without sugarcoating reality; who will confront you when you are wrong but who will stick around and help make things right. We are the audience of this beautiful friendship and the wonderful character development that both Jodie and Simon undergo. And of course, we cannot overlook our sweet, little dreamer Zak. This found family will make you go back to revisit passages. And the found family extends to their colleagues and friends – people who become part of this supportive chain.

This is not an easy book to read, in terms of its themes and situations. Some emotions are too real, some thoughts too personal. It goes beyond feeling lonely or lost – it touches upon the unfairness of life and the viciousness of people. How, even if you wish to help someone, sometimes you need to give them the time to come to terms with solace. Change doesn’t happen overnight and I appreciate how realistically this book approaches several situations.

Would recommend!
