Songs of No Provenance by Lydi Conklin
Did not finish book. Stopped at 27%.
I was excited to read one of this author’s novels because I’m such a fan of their short story writing, but 96 pages in and I’m feeling no meaningful connection to Joan Vole outside of general bad taste in my mouth.
I’m all for an antihero, but I was almost a third of the way into the book and I felt like I had no evidence or context clues to allude to what Joan’s character arc might be. Perhaps I’m giving up too early (and I could keep reading if I want to, on account of the well composed prose of the novel) but the point of the novel feels out of my sight.
