We Are Displaced by Malala Yousafzai

4.0

~ 4.0 ~

I think it's so admirable that Malala uses her fame to lift up the voices of other girls and women from around the world. The stories included in this book are heartbreaking, but also paint a picture of indomitable strength, courage, and resilience.

I will say that I'm not sure this was the best choice for the book club I lead for young women who came to the U.S. as refugees. It was too heavy at several points, and I could tell they wished for the discussion to shift towards something more positive. That being said, I definitely recommend this book to anyone looking to learn more about the refugee experience, especially through first person narratives (the only way these stories should be told, in my opinion).
