Open Water by Caleb Azumah Nelson

3.0

In general, the book is very well written and explores themes of race, especially in the UK, and police brutality and a nuanced and well-executed way. However, I found the writing to be, at times, too pretentious in some ways which tended to take me out of the narrative and distanced me from the characters themselves. As a result, I never felt like I really truly "got into" the book and it took a much longer time than anticipated to finish it, especially given its length. It's an objectively good book but personally, it didn't fully connect or engross me, unfortunately.
