Laura Dean Keeps Breaking Up with Me by Mariko Tamaki

5.0

"Every once in a while, I get this thought, like a thread I can feel on my skin. The thought is that I'm just willing what I'm feeling to be true. I'm willing myself to believe this is real."

HOLY FUCK
This book was such a sweet and messy coming to age novel. It was so good!!

What I loved:
- I loved the friendship between Dood and Freddy
- I loved the conversation about polyamorous and monogamous relationships and how traditional relationships aren't always the healthiest. (Staying in a marriage isn't always a good thing)
- I loved the artwork! The grayscale with pink is superb
- I loved that the mc was an multiracial East Asian/American protagonist who was also gay. I liked that there was so much representation of lgbt+ individuals.
- I loved the portrayal of toxic relationships and how it affects them and those around them.
- I loved Dood and the heartbreaking discussion of
Spoileran unwanted pregnancy, of abortion. The raw depiction of her relationships, of her father's and Freddy's (eventual) support, and the baby daddy's indifference
