ocean vuong’s poetry and subsequent prose is excellent, but it’s not a seamless transition into novel writing. this is written like one long poem, rather than a novel with a strong plot or backbone. and while i enjoyed it, it does make it difficult to keep track of as you read, so if you’re a person with attention issues, or prefers a more structured read this wouldn’t be my first recommendation.
if you still would like to read it, i’d recommend listening to the audiobook and just relaxing.
all that aside i respect this book, and i think it’s worth reading if you can get through it.
