When I read this the first time, I hadn’t experienced the kind of loss Marin had. With a new lens, this story shines and it hurts. The profound loneliness and hurt that exists on these pages seeps under your skin, and pushes the reader to feel something both for and with Marin. We Are Okay doesn’t wrap grief into a pretty package, it tells an honest story that shows grief and mental illness and hurt are intertwined. The book is beautiful, and never fails to make me cry.
