“Wolves have no kings.”

Damn… Poor Fitz :( The amount of beatings and abuse and emotional distress this boy goes through is staggering. He’s so clueless but so scrappy and sweet that even when he makes continuously terrible decisions you can’t help but love him. Give that boy a break!!

The Wit continues to be a really incredible metaphor for queerness (even unintentionally).

The Fool continues to be my favorite (and the BEST) character. The small amount of lore we got about him this book was not enough, I crave more. He’s so strange and magical and silly!  Seeing him get hurt so much this time around pained me almost as much as it pained Fitz. Im so curious about his origin and possible future-branch-seeing powers.

I am again blown away by the wonderful women in this series. It makes me so happy to see female characters be warriors as well as queens, crafters, nobility, and handmaids. A vast world of possibilities for women to be so many things and be treated with equal respect. Kettricken is the peak of this.

This story twisted my stomach into knots. I don’t know how we recover from the events of Royal Assassin. Especially when I know Assassin’s Quest will be soooo much worse, if I have learned anything about Robin Hobb.
