‘You have always thought if you opened your mouth in open water you would drown, but if you didn’t open your mouth you would suffocate. So here you are, drowning’ - Caleb Azumah Nelson 💧

Definitely a case of it’s not you, it’s me.
This short story faces some really heartbreaking themes: racism, love, loss and mental health. The writing was poetic and just beautiful for such a short read. ✍🏻
However, I personally just really struggled. I don’t know if it was the writing being second person. I don’t know if it was the descriptive writing. But my slow Brian struggled to connect to the characters and the story which SUCKS. 🤷🏻♀️
