A Reaper at the Gates by Sabaa Tahir

Trying to put my feelings into words. Will be back. Enjoy this weird rant for now:

I've been struggling to review the first two books, because I had unanswered questions, and feelings that I wasn't able to put into words.
This book amswered a few of those questions - though the answers were a bit disappointing.
And the feelings have sort of been put into words; there are so many important moments, things, rules and creatures that I felt were merely mentioned rather than built up. The world building, and especially the fantasy parts of it, were rushed in my opinion. I would rather have a detailed history lessons on the metal used for the masks for instance and why they use them and exactly how they mold to skin rather than four pages of the horny between Laia and Elias.
The world building was rushed. To the point of me having to google a lot of things, because I kept forgetting the characters and the creatures etc.

However. The last pages of this book were quite satisfying. I had felt that some characters were wronged and not acting like themselves, but they finally did in the last few pages! I still don't know if the characters needed to be written entirely off. Maybe the last book will tell..
I've been very annoyed by a lot of things till this point, and I am really hoping the last book will deal with all the annoyance and give a satisfying ending.
