Took me a while to get through this, but I did enjoy it! The world-building was pretty interesting in the way it tied with the Empire's history and what was expected of people. I very much enjoyed the murder mystery investigation bits and how that was developed throughout--I just wish we had gotten the reveals about that through another way and not a monologue. The final chapters also posed some really intriguing questions about morality and left me curious about what's to come!
One thing, I don't think Swan was successful at writing female characters despite one being the narrator. I hope for some improvement in regard to that as the trilogy goes on.
