Once: Before Midnight; Golden; Wild Orchid by Cameron Dokey

4.0

I really enjoyed all three stories that were in this collection, but Wild Orchid was my favorite. I had never read a Mulan story before, but loved the way she was portrayed in this version. I thought the relationship with her father was well written and adored her friendship with Li Po.

Before Midnight was next in line for me. I have read a few versions of this tale and was very impressed with this one. The relationship between Cendrillon and her step mother and sisters was different from many others and was done well. I enjoyed the introduction of a new character to the story as well (knew for me, maybe not to other versions, I really don't know).

Golden was a nice story, but I didn't enjoy it as much as the other two. I found it read a little slow and it took me a while to get into it. It was written well, but I'm not sure if a bald Rapunzel is the best kind. I loved the author's note at the end, explaining the reasons for writing it though.
