The Other Side of Midnight by Simone St. James

medium-paced
  • Plot- or character-driven? Plot

2.0

When a stranger shows up on her doorstep asking her to solve the murder of her one-time friend by doing the one thing she swore never to do again—contact the dead—local London psychic Ellie must decide what lengths she's willing to go to. Everyone involved in this case seems to be hiding something, even from Ellie. Can she figure out who took her friend's life before she loses her own?

I'm conflicted about The Other Side of Midnight. I enjoyed the story, and the plot twist was fun. However, I did not enjoy the writing style much. That, paired with my dislike of the first-person point of view, lessened my enjoyment of the story. I also found that Ellie was a rather boring character. While I enjoyed the story and finished it to satisfy my curiosity, I doubt I will be revisiting Ellie's story in the future.
