Dragons of Winter Night by Margaret Weis, Tracy Hickman

4.0

Well. Quite a bit of this story seemed recycled from other sources, and while I was thinking this, the title of the next chapter was "An Unexpected Journey". I really hope this was supposed to be a homage to the Hobbit, as the chapter was about Tas (small hobbit-like creature who steals like a burglar), but I lean a bit more to the other side where it was accidental.

Other than the book seeming to be unoriginal, I read it fairly quickly. I would have given the book a 3, but I liked the ending with a character dying. I enjoy it rather too much when authors kill off main characters, so I gave a full star for that risk they took.

I also enjoyed the return of Kitiara, as she was annoyingly absent but talked about quite a bit up until this point. I'm a little bummed however that Tanis was super weak and couldn't even voice that he disagreed with EVERYTHING HE'S FIGHTING FOR when he met her. Also with him and Laurana thinking about each other every other second, I can't believe he'd just jump into bed with Kitiara again. Also, why did the book end with Ahlana? Yuck. No update on Tanis' crew at all.

Anyways, this book was a solid 3.5, but we can't give those so I gave it a 4. I would recommend many other books instead of this if you're a fan of fantasy, as this seems just run of the mill.
