The Giver by Lois Lowry

Oh wow, I honestly did not expect that I would totally fall in love with this book. I cannot believe this. I had been intimidated by the number of people who claimed that this was a great book and I did not want to be disappointed so I held back. But after a rather gentle push by a friend I managed to finally grab this book and was blown away.

I loved how at first everything seemed so idealistic and I actually wanted to live in that kind of world. And then things started to unfold and I realize just how much of a nightmare it was. The narration was great as well and we get to know more about world building of this story without being taken out of the scenario. The pacing is quick and there was really not a dull moment here. Very thought-provoking as well.

If you need a refresher from the dystopian genre, I would like to recommend this book. It really makes you think about life and what's important, and what we think societies should really be. I highly recommend.
