The Willows by Algernon Blackwood

4.0

Two friends journey down the Danube River and find themselves at an island where the elements are a force to be reckoned with. As they set up camp they begin to note strange occurrences, the wind steadily increases as does the surrounding water levels, eroding the island area and closing in on them.

Are the willows moving closer? Who or what sabotaged their supplies and canoe? What is hiding in the willows at night? An atmospheric, creepy tale that gets under your skin. At times the language is a bit dense and it ruins the pacing and flow of the book, nevertheless it's a worthwhile read for any horror lover.

Recommended for those that love quiet horror moments.
