“It’s hard to describe how someone has manipulated you because you’re generally not aware of it when it’s happening. You don’t exactly take notes, is what I am saying.”

Okay firstly, wow. I genuinely enjoyed the ride this book took me on. Please be warned that this book is quite disturbing and it describes in detail of gore and murder and torture, rape. The book made me grimace and wince and have a hand over my heart so many times. Traumatising, hauntingly magnificent. If you’re looking for a psychological thriller that will make you think, leave you shocked with trust issues and question humanity, this is the book for you.

Lydia. The elder sister, perceived as the screw up because she went down a bad lane of drugs. Picked herself up for the sake of her daughter, and built a decent life with a wonderful man next door. On the other hand, a victim of attempted rape where her family didn’t believe her, left isolated and alone, suffered through poverty and more. The elder sister that cared despite the consequences.

Claire. The baby sister, beautiful and quiet, perceives as the Angel with her kindness and gentleness. Convicted for breaking the kneecaps of a rich ignorant bitch. On the other hand, a bigger victim of manipulation, and 20 years of living a lie and loving a borderline psychopath. The younger sister that got tricked into a mess.

I loved the way Claire and Lydia were there for each other. If you look behind the plot, there truly is the story of a sister’s bond and devotion to each other. A family’s struggles through grief and despair. A sister’s determination to avenge a lost family member.

The darker parts of the book (which shake me to the core, knowing it’s real, and this is happening somewhere in the world) , has me squirming and extremely uncomfortable but that’s the point of this book. To disturb and rattle your sanity. On that aspect, it did a great job too.
