Prophet Song by Paul Lynch
3.5

the ending picked up but I found the writing style quite difficult to get into -- there would be whole pages of one sentence, which made the book feel quite dense and hard going with little room to breathe. that may have been what lynch was going for though. profoundly sobering at this point in time -- the section where it talks about how all 'prophet song' (what I read as dystopia) is just a reflection of what has happened or is happening elsewhere or is happening now really spoke to me. but I do think the premise of this book is almost the antithesis of this -- its impact is dependent on the inability of people in places like Ireland and Britain to imagine themselves as refugees, dependent on a lack of humanisation/identification with people who are already refugees. I think, if you want to get the message of this book as someone in Ireland or Britain, all you need to do is open social media and bear witness to the horrors happening in gaza.
