When Friendship Followed Me Home by Paul Griffin

5.0

Add this one to your list of positive perspectives on alternative families and the bonds that tie us together other than blood. Griffin's story of a boy and the events that befall him left me aching to jump into the pages to save him, but he didn't need it in the end.

Kids grades 4 (maybe 3rd?) and up can handle the text, but the discussion might be better for 5th and up. If you have a chance to meet the author (whether through Skype or in person) definitely take the chance. We Skyped with him for bookclub (through our local bookstore group) and he was one of the most genuine and charismatic people I've had the pleasure to experience.
