WOW I was expecting to like this book but it exceeded my expectations by a million miles and is now easily one of my favorite books of all time.
This book would make me squirm, smile, cry, laugh, and love all in one chapter. Who would have thought that a book about a blood thirsty sea monster would be so romantic and heart touching.
On its surface this is a gory, horror novel about a sea monster killing a bunch of rich and awful people with the help of an old Scottish lady (taking eat the rich very literally which… love) but deeper down it’s a beautiful story about love and loss. Holding onto and appreciating the things in your life you love while you still have them because they can just disappear one day. About the sacrifices people make for the things they love. Their home, their community, their family, their soulmate.
