I cannot thank Sabaa Tahir enough for this book. I wept basically from beginning to end. The way Sabaa explored the fear, despair and, of course, rage that accompanies loss is heartbreaking, and she beautiful compliments it with the hope that comes with love, faith, and just being alive.

All our main characters are so dear to my heart. Misbah is a balm on a broken heart. Noor and Sal are the sprouts of life that the world tries to stomp out. Even when they hurt, even after they have used rage like weapons against each other, even when they have failed, there is still an opportunity to protect each other, to fight for each other, and to forgive each other (though they don’t always know how).

“If we are lost, God is like water, finding the unknowable path when we cannot”
