Empayar: Hikayat Putera Tanpa Nama by Teme Abdullah

The books that touch your soul most is always the hardest book to write a review about. Pelatih 8492 has got to be one of my fave fictional character, his maturity and hint of mysteriousness kept me going. I enjoyed his perspectives. The world building is also fairly well done although I would be greedy and wish for more pages regarding the world.

And, I really appreciate how 8492 brought forward the issue of someone's past and how it is irrelevant to the person's worth and piousness. When 8492 proclaimed that he wouldn't mind if his jodoh is a pelacur, I was coined. Not a lot of people nowadays are brave enough to see the truth of that mindset. I really appreciate it seeing this in a Malay novel where fragments of our culture goes against it.

One more issue I really applaud on it coming forth is the "penunggang agama" issue. Penghulu 1645 is the epitome of a penunggang agama and he is written in such a convincing manner that Iw as gritting my teeth hearing his arguments. We feel it in our hearts that he is wrong but we've encountered these tyopes of people who use Al Quran and Hadis flawlessly that it just unnerves us.

Dear Teme, thank you for writing this book.
