If you are looking for a fantasy that is going to break your heart, this book is for you. Hands down another 5 star read from Alycia.
Isle of Ember is the second book in The Enchanted Isles series. This follows Vivienne Banner and the crew of the Zephyrus to the next island, Ember, which is a volcanic island which is in contrast of the Isle of Verdance. Vivienne and the crew must find the second enchanted artifact to break a curse that has been placed on her homeland, but she becomes entangled into a more dangerous prophecy. During this time, she is trying to figure out her feelings towards everything. In her adventures, she makes new friends and suffers some setbacks. In the end, she earns the respect of the Drakin Emperor and develops a great relationship with the princess.
I loved the banter between the characters. There was so much character development with Lewis and the realization that he doesn’t love Vivienne as much as he thought. Not saying that he doesn’t love her but a different kind of love. I think once he realized that it was easier for him to really be there for her and help her through everything at the end of their quest on Ember. I also loved the flirtatious nature between Lewis and Nova.
The friendship that develops between Kalon and Vivienne. He was so protective of her even though she was to be a “guest.” The questions that they would ask each other was something that helped build their friendship. The letter that he wrote to her; it was everything a person would want from a true friend.
