Sweet story, loveable characters, very quick read. But I felt it was missing some depth. I would’ve loved to spend more time with the characters. There were some pretty significant jumps in time where we were just told “it was my first time going back in ages” or something along those lines. But why? Is your job far? What is ages? A month? 6 months? A year? Idk. I also would’ve loved a bit more time with the side characters, they and their stories were just passing by most often. Just a hundred more pages, I feel could’ve fleshed out so much more.
The first part of the book I think was excellent. The passing of time was reasonable, and jumps were justified. There was great character development, it was funny, it was heartfelt. ‘Twas great.
The second part felt so very rushed. The best part of it was the time spent at a mountain inn. But the moments leading up to that and right after were two sentences each. But even while at the inn, I think more could’ve been explored. If not for the plot, for the development of these characters. I would’ve loved for example a conversation between the characters that go (no spoilers) about Takako’s love life. That would’ve made so much sense in context, would’ve brought the characters closer together, would’ve helped develop Takako’s character. So that’s my only issue with the book, I wanted more. But overall, it was pretty good, certainly not bad by any means.
