I had thought that I had settled in and was enjoying this series, but I found this one pretty damn soporific. It covers the end of the second world war and even less happens than usual. And I thought I'd made my peace with the fact that the female characters are poorly portrayed but there was one here whose characterization really annoyed me. I think we'll get to learn more about her in the rest of the books but from what we saw in this one, well it's an interesting thing to look at her bit of the story through a twenty first century lens anyhow.
